Kaytranada | KOKO, London

Kevin Celestin, aka Kaytranada, played a bouncy, animated set at KOKO last night in a rare London performance.

The producer, working out of Montreal, has become well-known since bursting onto the scene in 2012 with a remix of Janet Jackson’s ‘if’

His signature production style which incorporates elements of house, disco, dancehall and hip hop has led his unique sound to become illustrious. The warm basslines and playful drum patterns have lended well to artists such as Craig David, Katy B, Vic Mensa, Rejjie Snow, The Internet and Anderson Paak – who have all worked with Kaytranada over his career.

Kaytranada has also released a critically acclaimed debut album 99.9%. This album announced Kaytranada to the world and made the 26 year old a go to producer for some of RnB and Hip Hop’s biggest names. Having a Kaytranada produced track is like having a stamp of approval.

During his live set Kaytranada played a number of his hit songs from 99.9% – every song received a raucous reception. The generally young crowd took straight away to Kaytranada – there was a warm, joyful feeling in the audience reflecting the upbeat mood of the music.

The energetic, playful sounds of Kaytranada alongside the glowing visuals made for an outstanding live show. The producer and DJ also played a number of his unreleased tracks – these included three tracks with Kali Uchis, VanJess, Ty Dolla Sign and Teedra Moses. All of these tracks sounded like instant classics.

Kaytranada also addressed the audience announcing that his next album would definitely be coming out next year and that his live show would be returning to London around the same time – we will be sure to return.
