Today marks the UK release of Avengers: Infinity War featuring some of the most well-known names in Hollywood.
Ten years of Marvel Studios have built to this moment and a sleek new logo to kick off the film is a well-crafted throwback to the Iron Man film that kicked off the MCU. Leaving this as spoiler-free as possible, the one thing I will say is that the hype generated for this film was well deserved and everyone involved has created a spectacle which has lived up to to it’s lofty expectations.
Surprisingly, for a cast of so many, the screen time each gets is scripted well enough that you never feel as though you’re missing anyone (other than those not in the film). The characters come together in a way that makes sense and, although slightly manic at times, the plot develops well without jumping too much from one thing to another. The chemistry displayed between the characters is also very realistic – this is even seen with actors who haven’t worked together beforehand, such as the Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor. Although, it must be said that your favourite characters may not come together in this movie – yet this opens the possibility for more characters meeting in following films. With so much going on and multiple events happening all at once, this isn’t a problem. There is more than enough time for you to see your favourites on screen – Josh Brolin’s Thanos gives so much of his own story that when the credits roll it will seem like you have been in the cinema for an eternity. For a film totalled at 150 minutes, it is true what they say, time flies when you’re having fun, and that is what this new Avengers film is… Fun. Even with the generic aspects you expect from Marvel films, it delivers on newer concepts and shows a sense of heart you would not expect to see from a tall, buff purple alien.
So whether you are looking for VFX seen in Dr Strange, or the heartfelt fun in Guardians of the Galaxy, or even the relentless brawls from Captain America: Civil War. This film is for you! It is everything from the past 10 years of the MCU, precisely moulded into one to create a cinematic experience that will be remembered for a very long time.
