Solo: A Star Wars Blunder?

Ever since the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, there has been plenty of anticipation surrounding the standalone anthologies.

There have been announcements made by Disney that between each of the new trilogy instalments there will be Star Wars standalone films also released.

The newest announcement was ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’. This motion picture will be orientated around the most famous scoundrel in the galaxy, Han Solo. The film will also include his Wookie sidekick Chewbacca. A young Han Solo will be portrayed by American actor Alden Ehrenreich. This movie will be focusing on his earlier days, possibly before or how he came to have owned the fastest ship in the sector, the notorious Millenium Falcon.

This film will also feature ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ and ‘The Last Jedi’s’ rebel hero, Lando Calrissian. He will be being played by actor, director and artist Donald Glover, most famously known by his stage name, Childish Gambino. Alongside Donald will join Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke playing Kira as well as Woody Harrelson and Paul Bettany.

Many fans are trying to predict what is happening in this film. Will we meet Han’s parents? Be taken to his home planet of Corellia? Or maybe we will finally see Solo take on the famously treacherous Kessel Run? But without any doubt we will see him learning and putting to test his swindling tricks which has made him the galaxies best smuggler which we all know to this day.

On the contrary, although this film is being highly anticipated, Disney have reportedly been “preparing for a car crash”. The producers have stated that lead actor Alden Ehrenreich “couldn’t act and had a dialogue coach at all of his scenes”. There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the film also – both directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller,  were fired and replaced by Ron Howard. It has been reported that the new director has had to reshoot roughly 80% of the film.

Could this all be bad news for the anthologies of Star Wars? Personally I still look forward to watching the movie, I believe it will bring a fresh new take on the Star Wars franchise.
